Werken tot je pensioen, employability in het onderwijs

Sinds kort ben ik op interim basis werkzaam in het onderwijs. Het is een omgeving die om meerdere redenen zeer interessant is vanuit loopbaanperspectief. Het is een sector met zeer platte organisaties, het zijn bijna 100% “mens” organisaties, met veel part-timers  en  de demografische opbouw is veelal niet evenwichtig.

In de eerste weken valt mij al direct op dat vergrijzing een van de grote uitdagingen is. Ik zie dat er een groot aantal mensen in het onderwijs werkt met zeer lange dienstverbanden.  Uit cijfers van het ministerie blijkt dat in het basisonderwijs 33 procent van de leerkrachten ouder dan vijftig jaar is. Volgens het rapport De toekomstige arbeidsmarkt voor onderwijspersoneel 2010-2020 van het ministerie van Onderwijs vergrijst het personeelsbestand. Dat heeft zijn goede kanten. De schat aan expertise die de scholen daarmee in huis hebben is groot.  Daarnaast zijn deze senioren in de regel loyale, betrouwbare en sociaalvaardige werknemers, zelden ziek en altijd flexibel. Geen last meer van schoolgaande kinderen, hoogstens van mantelzorgvragende ouders. Geen last van nachtelijk waken door kindergehuil, hoogstens een extra toiletgang vanwege een opspelende prostaat of rode konen door opvliegers. De oudere werknemer is de ideale werknemer. Ze zijn het collectieve geheugen van de school. Dat klinkt goed en dat is het ook.
